HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE INFO, provided by Cheryl D. Reedy of Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority
|
|
Your sellers are closing tomorrow. They haven’t yet disposed of the household hazardous waste that’s accumulated in their home over the years and doing so at the last minute is going to cost them dearly. What can be done to avoid this scenario? As soon as a house is listed for sale, urge homeowners to take advantage of the annual household hazardous waste collections offered by their municipality and paid for through their tax dollars, says Cheryl Reedy, Director of HRRA, the solid waste and recycling authority representing 11 municipalities in the greater Danbury area. Collection dates for the summer of 2008 can be found at http://hrra.org/current_interest.php , along with a list of items accepted and directions to the collection points. For residents in municipalities across the state, DEP posts a list of dates for household hazardous waste collection every year at http://ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2718&q=325448 . Sellers who miss one of the free collections have no alternative but to hire a licensed hazardous waste collection and transportation company to pick up their hazardous materials, which can often cost hundreds of dollars. So act early; avoid a last minute pre-closing panic; and take advantage of the no charge household hazardous waste collections offered in the region this summer!
